Introduction
National Rural Support Programme (NRSP) is a non-profit company registered under section 42 of Company's Ordinance 1984. Salient features of NRSP:
• It is a home grown organization
• Government of Pakistan provided seed capital to establish NRSP
• NRSP's core operations are managed from the income of an endowment fund
• NRSP maintains its autonomy and independence
• NRSP has no preconceived package for delivery of its services or supplies
• NRSP is a development organization and has no political agenda
Programme Objectives, Strategy and Approach
Harnessing people's potential to help themselves.
NRSP provides social guidance to harness this potential.
Key Assumptions
• People have tremendous potential and willingness to undertake many development activities by themselves
• There is at least one activist in each community who is willing to mobilize the community.
How NRSP Bahawalpur Works?
• Program is introduced in selected union councils
• Existing situation of poverty and peoples potential is analyzed to use as a benchmark of the union council
• People are asked to define poverty and categorizes the households in appropriate categories
• People are motivated to get organized
• People are helped in identifying true and genuine activists to lead the community
• Such activities are identified that people are willing to undertake by themselves
• Communities are mobilized to undertake feasibility of their projects
• Capacity building of the communities through provision of social guidance, technical assistance, saving/credit and linkages with other programmes.
• Supports the community in arranging flow of required resources and monitoring of development
